Corbon Grand Millésime 1996

This is an exceptional wine from many points of view: an extraordinary year, characterized by a decidedly high level of acidity in the grapes, which explains why Corbon disgorged this Champagne only in February 2016, after siting more than 18 years on the lees. Just over 1,000 bottles of this Grand Millésime were produced and its price reflects its rarity. And the extraordinary year made this family’s savoir-faire even more evident. In the glass the wine has a golden-white color and a subtle, precise and unending effervescence.

The iodine in the bouquet brings out a lively citrus component from delicate mentholated nuances on a background of fragrances that range from dried fruit to delicate pastry crust. The mouthfeel is profound and spicy at the same time, with notes of ginger, candied grapefruit and white tea which together with a sharp freshness creates a wrapping rhythm. The soaring persistence is held to the ground by the sapidity of Avize. A decidedly remarkable wine.
